ESCWA Web Governance

These are the standards and guidelines for managing and maintaining the ESCWA website. All content entered after 1 May 2016 should follow the guidelines set here and page revisions for existing pages should be made in accordance with the timelines provide

Visual Standards

All visuals must be in line with ESCWA Brand Guidelines

Technical Standards

Audio Files

Audio files must be in MP3. Video files must be posted in Flash Video (FLV) format. Size of downloadable files must balance between quality and file size. Executable files are prohibited.

Videos

If videos are hosted on third party sites such as You Tube, the authenticity of the videos must be validated prior to providing views on ESCWA websites. Related videos or multi-media content must be thoroughly checked for relevance before linking from ESCWA web pages.

Images / photography

Images may be placed within set spacing in the web content area depending on the webpage template.

Copyright for use of any purchased stock art has been obtained and registered.

Files names must reflect the content of the image/photo.

File names for publication cover images should be the same as the file name of the publication PDF and entered in the language of the publication. (for example: child-marriage-humanitarian-settings-arab-region) If the file is equally in English and Arabic, enter properties in English and Arabic.

Creating websites at the UN

Definitions

  • ESCWA website: ESCWA's public website https://www.unescwa.org
  • Subsites: Set of interconnected web page not necessarily developed by ESCWA, e.g. a publication site, a special event site, a project site.... A list of sub-sites and visual captures can be found in the List of ESCWA Subsites section (all existing sub sites are being migrated to the new templates with the same brand and design)
  • Content Management System: A system that facilitates the use of reusable components or customized software for managing Web content.
  • Drupal: A free and open-source content-management framework written in PHP
  • Core title: The title used to identify the work and summarize the contents. (In come ESCWA titles, the core title is before the : and sometimes it is after the :.  The core title should pique the reader's curiosity.
  • Subtitle:  An explanatory or alternate title.
